Two Players and One Willing Coach
In 2002, a mom sent an email to her homeschool co-op group asking a simple question: was there anywhere for her two sons to play football — and was there anyone willing to help?
One man, Scott Willis, replied that he would be willing to help.
A few months later, his wife asked him if he had signed up to be the head coach. Scott replied, “Well, I said I would help.” He soon called his friend, Coach Dorsey, and asked if he wanted to help. “What have we got?” Coach Dorsey asked. “Two players, no field, and no equipment.” It wasn’t much of a football program yet. But it was a beginning.
Since Then
God Provided a Name — and So Much More
We began as a football team. Since then, Georgia Force has grown to include football, sideline and competitive cheerleading, and basketball, and we look forward to where God may lead us next.
But somewhere along the way, something else happened. We became more than a sports organization. We became a community. Georgia Force gives homeschool students and families a place to experience many of the traditions that surround high school athletics — the excitement of Friday Night Lights, exciting basketball games, cheering from the stands, representing your school on the court or field, celebrating Homecoming.
Today, the Force experience reaches well beyond the scoreboard. Our annual Homecoming Dance has become one of the most anticipated events of the year and sells out each year. We host a Sadie Hawkins Dance and provide a homeschool graduation, giving students and families opportunities to celebrate some of life’s biggest high school moments together.
Those events reflect what Georgia Force has become. We build friendships and make memories. And through it all, we strive to honor Christ in everything we do.
More than two decades after that first email, it’s remarkable to think about where this started. When we look back over our history, we can see time and again how God has directed, provided for, and grown this organization.
Just someone willing to say, “I’ll help.”
God took it from there.
